Dorsey and Rob Campbell created The Wine Guy in 1999, moving to Asheville from Atlanta, where they had been in the wine business over 15 years as retailer, wholesaler and restaurant owners.  In 2002, they opened a second location on the south side of town, which is managed by longtime friend and fellow wine lover Steve Nelson.  The two shops offer an ever-changing, manageable number of wines from around the world, personally tasted and selected for quality and value.  You will find terrific alternatives to the “factory wines” found in grocery stores, as well as limited production wines from the world’s top growing regions and wineries.  Craft-brewed beers and a nice selection of wine accessories round out the operation.

Regularly scheduled wine tastings and classes are offered to increase your knowledge and enjoyment, and we work with the area’s top restaurants to present incredible wine dinners as well.

At The Wine Guy, we are happy to answer any wine related questions you may have, and will be happy to consult with you on plans for upcoming weddings, banquets, or simple gatherings with friends.  Please stop in and let us share some of our discoveries!

Greetings Wine Lovers!

Anybody else out there ready for Spring? About this time of year I start dreaming of warm days, fresh seafood and fresh, fruity, crisp white wines. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who can’t wait for the mountains to come back to life. Check out both shops as our inventories will shift with the season. We’ll be stocking lots of fresh, delicious whites and light, fruity roses.

Make sure to check the calendar section for our list of tasting events and wine dinners. The Wine Guy North is host to the ever popular New Arrivals Tasting which takes place the last Sat. of each month and requires no reservation. Come on out and see us.

As we go to print, our very own Wine Goddess, Dorsey is traveling through Burgundy - no doubt having a blast - tasting some of the best wines the region has to offer. I can’t wait to see the slideshow - coming to a Wine Guy near you - as soon as she gets back.

We have got some great tastings scheduled for the next two months. Italian Reds, Rhone Blends, Pinot Noir and a Syrah / Shiraz comparative tasting will be held at The Wine Guy North. The other tasting event that we are looking forward to is Rob Campbell’s Wine 201 Toure de France. If you would like to learn more about the wines of France, this promises to be one of the most informative two week tasting seminars you will find.

Our March wine dinner finds us for the first time at Sugo teaming up with owners Chef Damien and Lindsay Cavicchi on Wed. March 19th where the wines of Dionysus Distributors will be presented by Anne Kaufman.

Thurs. April 30th we will be dining with Victor and Robin at La Caterina Trattoria. Chef Shane’s menus are always a treat and will be paired with a terrific new line of Italian wines brought to us by Classic Wines.
